Dear Jack, As our country struggles to repair the damage from a devastating recession, Ohio businesses are fighting hard to stay on their feet. But China’s currency manipulation has opened a trap door beneath our manufacturers. It’s cheating, plain and simple, a way for China to give its own manufacturers an unfair boost over our workers. There’s no question that Ohio’s talented and dedicated manufacturers can compete with anyone -- so long as there’s a level playing field. But if we don’t enforce the rules of the game -- if we let China continue to get away with currency manipulation -- we’ll keep losing. That’s why I’ve launched an online campaign to demand action from Washington. This isn’t a partisan issue. Democrats and Republicans alike understand that, if we don’t stand up to China’s cheating, we can’t protect our workers and our manufacturing sector. It’s time to close this trap door that many people don’t even know lurks beneath our feet. It’s time to implement real penalties if China breaks the rules. Ohio manufacturers aren’t afraid of honest competition. But they shouldn’t have to tolerate unfair actions by China -- and our government shouldn’t let the Chinese get away with it.
