The Solution to our Nation’s ‘Gun Problem’

The Solution to our Nation’s ‘Gun Problem’

The Solution to our Nation’s ‘Gun Problem’

Killing people is a moral problem not a societal problem. There are few people who want to talk about morality these days. It’s no wonder that there are no longer any moral taboos. What was considered immoral 40 years ago is being made formally legal today by voters, legislators, and our courts. I believe there is a relationship between “defining deviancy down” and an increase in the disregard for other people. An uptick in ‘Moral Misfits‘ is the result.
The usual suspects are out in force calling for additional gun-control measures. School children are most vulnerable to gun violence. They can’t defend themselves, and neither can the teachers. Schools are “Gun Free Zones,” but only for the law abiding. Criminals don’t care about gun laws; that’s why they’re criminals.
Thieves don’t care about laws against theft, and rapists don’t care about laws against rape. The same is true about drinking and driving. We’ve just had a high profile drunk driving arrest. “Dallas Cowboys nose tackle Josh Price-Brent was arrested early Saturday morning [December 8, 2012] on intoxication manslaughter charges involving a car accident that killed teammate Jerry Brown.”
Laws won’t stop people intent on doing harm.
So what do the law-abiding citizens do? They arm themselves just like they would in war. There are terror insurgents in the United States hell-bent on destroying others. That’s a fact.
Just the other day a young woman was murdered when she told three teenage thugs to “get a job.”
More people are killed in the United States through violent means than are killed in our current foreign wars. In March of this year, violence in Chicago had left 52 people dead – more than twice as many as died in the March of 2011. There were 39 Coalition Military Fatalities in Afghanistan during the same month.
Schools should immediately develop a program where every teacher is trained in how to handle a firearm. All teachers must comply to get hired. If Israel can do it, why not America? Larry Pratt of Gun Owners of America wrote the following in 2008: “In the mid-seventies, a terrorist attacked an Israeli school bus, murdering over 30 children. . . . A majority of Israelis . . . found a compelling reason for putting guns in schools — terrorists would get guns whether Jews were armed or not. As a result, schools in border areas, and school buses, were manned with gun-toting teachers or others assigned to be at the ready.”

Signs should be posted around the school that read:
“The teachers and administrators of this school are armed and trained in deadly force. Anybody attempting to enter the school intending to do harm will be shot on sight.”
Instead, if a student draws what looks like a gun, he’ll be suspended for ten days.
And what should we do with those who are involved in a murder spree? They should be executed. The man who shot and killed a number of people at Gabrielle Gifford’s campaign rally and the man who killed the people in the movie theater are still alive.
There is no doubt that these men killed these people. Their mental state, either before or after the shootings, is irrelevant. They should be dead by now.
We need some public executions to send a message.
Let’s stop blaming law-abiding citizens and go after the criminals.

Here's my idea; any former military member with a honorable discharge, that passes a background check and gets special training should be allowed to carry ANYWHERE in all 50 states. With a few extra million armed folks out there the bad guys will think twice,

I was good enough to protect my country before, why not again?

Well said. I am prior service too and though 64, will step to the plate again again. Our Oath did not come with an expiration date.

I'm 65. Retired Navy. My oath just said "all enemies, foreign and domestic..." I have no problem picking up my 9mm or my 8x57mm and standing guard in a school a couple of days a week.

That's because they believe that prevention in responcible hands is better than legislating laws that be nothing more than lip service and a clear signal to would be crimminals to do whatever they want ...

If you follow the history of the second amendment back to its origins, this is where it all started, Switzerland.

At the same time the Bible also has something to say about weapons. It says the strong man needs to protect his home. Jesus told His disciples to sell their garment and get a sword.

I think in Switzerland it is mandatory you have a gun, and the age is very young. Even the Constitution allows for guns even for the young. I agree that if everyone who wanted to have a gun it sure would cut down on crime. I have not been one that wanted a gun, but I sure feel safe knowing someone else does and willing to protect me,

You bring up very good points about in Switzerland, gun ownership is mandatory. It is in Israel and Finland too. If liberals were correct, (like saying, if the world was flat) these counties should be the murder havens. The other point is, you point out in a way the important difference between Conservatives and liberals. Under Conservatism, you have choice to own or not to own a gun, but under liberalism, they ban everything THEY don't like, therefore affording you no choice at all-unless you happen to agree with them. Guns just happen to be on a very very long list of legal items on the market today that liberal bed wetters want to prohibit.

Also for the TSA, instead of the bunch they have use our military and veterans. Let the Israelis train our veterans who are willing to step forward and protect our people. Gun control is a joke -- it is not about guns it is about control. Go back 40 years as the author says and what do we have now that we did not have then? We have extreme violence in our movies and on TV (while Hollywood is calling for gun control), broken families (thanks to welfare and The Great Society), gangs in the streets, ethics and morality taken out of the what we teach children in school, our leaders leading immoral lives, and on and on. And people ask why this is happening.

Cleaning out the brains of our children from God has caused nothing but trouble ever since they push and outlawed God from our schools and some churches now.

When Countries worshipped God and "turned from their wicked ways" they prospered! As soon as they turned their backs on God, began to worship the CREATED instead of the CREATOR, they were turned over to a "Reprobate Mind"! Our Country is TEEMING with reprobated minds! The ones we CHOSE to lead us to prosperity has lead us to the the brink of despair! THEIR position/power/wealth takes precedence over everything that doesn't benefit them! Until we THROW these "REPROBATES" back into the sewers where they were hatched, God will NOT hear our prayers and HEAL our land! And we will continue to HEEL to THEM!

Sadly, there is no quick or easy answer. How do we turn around and can we? There are forces and segments out there that want it this way and we are seeing the results every day. We need to be on knees and turn back to God and get God back into our lives -- government, schools, work, and I am afraid until we do we will continue down this path. Be blessed.

oh yeah, remember when society was perfect because we were all focused on god and people didn't do bad things? Never Happened, as a matter of fact the times when focus was on God it has historically been horrific for those in the wake of Christian death marches like the Crusades, Spanish Conquest, Salem Witch Trials just to name a few.

It is too bad that you learned history inaccurately. When and where there have been great revivals (large number of people repented and accepted Jesus' gift of salvation) crime rates have decreased. For example, there were revivals in England that kept the transition to more democratic gov't, while in France thousands were killed during the French revolution.

Are you serious? Do you have any idea what you are talking about? Are you honestly trying to suggest that those things you mention are anything compared to even the anti-God atrocities on the 20th century alone? First, one must ask if any particular action was consistent with Christianity (or whatever worldview someone claimed to represent). If not, then it is not representative. For a start, consider reading Jeffrey Burton Russell's Exposing the Myths About Christianity for an introduction to the topic. Beyond this there are many books, from religious and non-religious historians which demonstrate the fallacies perpetuated about the crusades, inquisitions, witch trials, etc. Speaking of the Salem trials, D'Souza and others note that fewer than 25 people were killed in the trials (p. 207 What's So Great About Christianity?).

The info is there for people not interested in twisting it. And no one said it was perfect and that people didn't do bad things. I think it is fairly obvious that the point is that it was better, generally speaking, better.

If you go back 40 or 50 years you will see plenty of violence. Roy Rogers, Gene Autry and the rest of the saturday heros all got involved in violence. Difference is they fought in the name of justice and the bad guys always lost.We had numerous war movies with John Wayne and Richard Widmark along with all the rest of the American heros. Difference was all the violence was designed to preserve our way of life.
The violence these kids see today is performed just for the sake of violence and there aren't all that many good guys in the video games. They just kill for the thrill of killing. If we have a problem in this country, it has been created by the video game designers, movies made by sick creeps that dwell on the horror of all possibilities and we brainwash these kids to never defend themselves in school.

And there was also the Junior NRA of which I was a member. I was an expert by the time I graduated from high school in 1958. My biggest thrill was the night we had our parents shooting side by side with us. I outshot my Dad. Not my Mother though. She grew up on a farm and one of her jobs was to potshot gophers in the potato field--------from the time she was 4 years old.

@ axmickl - You are so right. Not only do current violent movies kill for the thrill of it, but they GLORIFY THE BAD GUYS!

Return to morality is the answer. Children (and adults) need to learn what is right and what is wrong. Hollywood has been leading us down the wrong path - the right path for their purposes because they want to see the downfall of America just like our President. Our own President, for the past four years, has preached nothing but hatred of those who believe different than he does, racism, violence, war on conservatives, war on Republicans, war on the working class, he has hate lists and kill lists, his campaign workers stated they wanted to shoot Romney, he is encouraging violence by the unions, his unions are threatening a civil war. The working people are on edge being threatened by the fiscal cliff while the President continues campaigning and complaining. He refuses to cut his wasteful spending and refuses to compromise with Republicans to solve this Nation's problems. He is anti-Judeo-Christian religion and values. Then he has the gall to wonder why there is violence in America.

There is no right or wrong anymore. It is by design. Very few will talk about the real reasons this is happening, they'd rather talk about how guns kill. They always want to shoot the messenger, and not talk about the message. It doesn't fit the narrative.

You are right, everything is relative today and morals even 20 years ago are not the same today and accepted. Most people have no idea what the Bible says about living our lives as unto the Lord -- it is more like living for self and who cares about God?

We have became a blame someone else for our problems. Look at our leadership, local, state and federal all the way to the White House.
These punks today have no structure in the home. Teachers are not to discipline the students, parents say, my child would not do that", parents do not discipline their children, it hurts their creative. Dr tell children it's not their fault. There is going to be more shooting until we end these gun free zones. It's not a disgrace for law enforcement to ask for volunteers.

Exactly. Where there is a will there is a way. Ask Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman, or read up on how many school children have been attacked and killed in China by men wielding knives over the past 5 years. I am struck by the hypocricy of many who would ban guns, but display no outrage about the 10,000 people who die each year in fatal drunk driving accidents!! According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration 10,228 people died in drunk driving crashes in 2010 alone. Should we ban automibiles? Alcohol? We have gun laws. Lunatics disregard gun laws. Instead of knee jerk solutions, let's address solutions to identifying those who need mental help and see that they receive it.

what are "kill bullets"? ANY bullet can kill.
Less Than Lethal will kill @ point blank.
And a trained holder of a 9mm would have taken out this shooter.

"Assault" weapons? "Kill bullets"? "the 9mm will not hold up to most assault weapons..."? You have no idea what you are talking about. People "assault," all bullets can kill (even if some are more potent that others), and it's not like the 9mm and AR15 are going head to head in a cage match. As combdyn wisely noted, "a trained holder of a 9mm would have taken out this shooter."

What is a "Kill bullet"? Been around firearms all my life and never heard of such a thing.

As far as "easy access to assault weapons" I will challenge you to try to get one. Assault weapons have the capability of full automatic fire either in bursts or until the magazine is empty with pressing and holding the trigger ONE TIME. Without a class 3 license from the ATF you cannot purchase any assault weapon and that class 3 license requires some extensive background checks long before it is issued.

Just because the MSM calls the AR-15 and AK and SKS SEMI-auto firearms "assault weapons" doesn't mean that they are - it just means that the MSM is either ignorant or has an agenda to make people unfamiliar with firearms think that they are inherently bad.

The firearms that you can purchase are semi-auto only versions that LOOK like the military firearm and fire the same round.

The founders of our great nation actually expected all citizens to be able to arm themselves with the same arms that the military have at their disposal ...

"Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Congress have no power to disarm the militia. Their swords and every other terrible implement of the soldier, are the birthright of an American . . . . The unlimited power of the sword is not in the hands of either the federal or state governments, but, where I trust in God it will ever remain, in the hands of the people." -- Tench Coxe of Pennsylvania in The Pennsylvania Gazette, Feb. 20, 1788

Not if you can offer a real solution. Disarming law abiding citizens is NOT the answer. When they start rounding up semi automatic rifles do you truly believe that criminals & loonies are going to take theirs to the police station & turn them in. If you do, you have definitely been drinking WAY too much of the Obama-Pelosi-Reed koolaid.
