Although Yemen’s Vice President Abdu Rabu Mansour Hadi is the only candidate running for President later this month, it will be the actions of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh that will determine the legitimacy of the election. Saleh is currently in the United States receiving medical treatment, but if he returns prior to the election as he has indicated, his presence will further destabilize the country, fuel more mass protests, and strengthen Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).
