Team Madison- Congress is in recess, so no Madisonian this week. However, we have another endorsement to share with you. I had a chance to interview Carl Wimmer this past week and came away thinking, "If only we could get more like him in Congress." We are excited to endorse Carl in his run for the United States Congress in the new 4th Congressional District in Utah. Read our endorsement of Carl here. Elsewhere, former United States Attorney General Ed Meese also endorsed Clark Durant for Senate in Michigan. And today, one of our favorite Senators, Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, endorsed Evan Feinberg in his race for Pennsylvania's 18th Congressional District. As we do every week, here is the Best of Daniel Horowitz. The Best of Daniel Horowitz - Obama is finally out with his annual budget, and it is not pretty. Even with its sundry tax increases, this budget will never balance – ever. It will leave us $26 trillion in debt by the end of the 10-year budget frame. Remember, this is Obama’s election year budget; imagine what it would look like if he wins reelection next year. We have all the gory details of his budget. Please read more here
- We’ve been subsidizing the sugar industry for decades. This has allowed rich farmers to prosper on the back of Americans. It has also induced inflationary pressure on many vital food products. We must end all government interventions in agriculture. Please read more here
- Both the Senate and House highway bills are terrible pieces of legislation, but the one saving grace is that they contain no earmarks. Well, except for one earmark in the Senate version. Can you guess whose state was awarded the earmark? Please read more here
- Republicans won back Congress with the promise that they would lead us towards a balanced budget. Yet, not only have they failed to roll back existing deficits, they are creating new ones. Worse, they are coalescing around a disturbing mantra of ‘spend now, pay later.’ This is not the Republican Congress we elected, and it appears that we need to replace many of the faux Tea Party members.
